How to soften suede after washing

Despite the fact that suede is not only beautiful, but also quite practical material, it has a significant drawback. Over a period of time, comfortable and attractive things lose their gloss.

You can return a decent appearance to such products by simply washing them manually or in a washing machine, observing certain rules. In this case, a problem often arises - suede loses its primary softness. What needs to be done to soften it. Experts offer several ways to soften the material.

Useful tips for softening suede

  1. Suede is steamed over steam. The process itself requires scrupulousness and accuracy. In no case should a thing get into boiling water. Otherwise, the product will deteriorate (suede shrinks). As an option, in a bathtub with a hot shower turned on, suede items are left for half an hour, no more. The suede softened in this way is thoroughly dried naturally, without resorting to any heating devices. The dried thing is re-steamed. To achieve the desired softness, the softening procedure is repeated at least five times. Suede will indeed become soft material.
  1. Softened shoes are recommended to be pushed tightly with paper. This is done so that during drying the soft material does not sit.

  2. Softening suede can be done with a solution of vinegar. It should be prepared independently by dissolving in one liter of water one teaspoon of vinegar essence. If 5% or 9% vinegar is available, it is worth taking one tablespoon. Killed suede fabric is wiped several times with a soft sponge dipped in the resulting solution. With the same effect, ammonia is also used.
  3. If after the manipulations the softness is not returned to the product, it is worth resorting to the following method. You need to prepare a glycerin mixture. It is a composition that will result from mixing half a teaspoon of glycerin with a liter of water. The resulting pre-shaken, moistened soft tissue and applied to suede, allowing the solution to soak. Wipe off any excess with a dry cloth.

  4. You can use an iron with a steaming function. The suede thing should be hung on the shoulders and the sole passes over the surface of the suede at a distance of two centimeters. The procedure is not quick to achieve the desired result.

The main recommendation to owners of suede products is to regularly look after things made of such a delicate material, not to allow it to change dramatically, when with all efforts you can’t restore it to its original state.
