Conveniently and safely, the zipped zipper will not let the contents get lost.

Zipped welt pocket

Before performing work, it is necessary to determine where the part will be. Based on this, we prepare the material.

What is needed

To make a welt pocket with a zipper, you will need the following.

  • Lightning metal 15-18 cm.
  • A flap of fabric to grind.
  • Lining fabric.

How to make a pocket

The work is performed on the front side of the product, we determine the location.

  • On the fabric, measure the length of the cut. Draw a straight line, marking the beginning and end with transverse lines. Consider an example for a pocket on a bag with a length of 18 cm.
  • Turning flap 3 cm longer than the part, width 4.5–5.5 cm.
  • On the front side of the fabric we impose a hem, fix it with pins.
  • On the edge, mark the line of the pocket and make a frame. Its width depends on the width of the zipper.
  • Line to connect. It turns out a rectangle frame. Lay the machine line along the lines received.
  • We make a hole in the center line, cut it, without cutting to the edges of about 1–1.5 cm. We make notches in the corners of the frame. We work carefully so as not to touch the line.
  • Unscrew the inside out so that the underside is not visible. Secure with pins and flip manually.
  • Iron the resulting frame.

How to sew a zipper

The next stage of work is the attachment of lightning to the product.

Important! Choose a fastener so that the zipper is longer than the frame.

  • Put the fastener under the underside of the fabric from the wrong side and sweep.
  • Sew a line along the edge of the frame with a sewing machine, step back from the edge of 2-3 mm.

How to sew on burlap

  • From the lining fabric, cut two rectangular flaps equal to the width of the grind, the length is optional.
  • Sew burlap to the hem with zipper, stitch.
  • Perform the same actions with the second flap.

Important! The line is laid as close to the edge of the edge as possible.

  • Point the burlap down and sew the side and bottom cuts of fabric.

Stitched pocket with a zipper

This option is performed on the principle of a slotted, but with a set-in leaflet.

Materials and Tools

To work, you need lightning, select the length as desired. On its basis, a frame for a leaf is prepared. Clasp length 17 cm, leaflet width 3 cm, length 17 plus 0.5 cm at the edges for easy stitching.

Making leaflets

On the fabric, draw a leaflet frame. To do this, postpone the length, width of the leaflet in expanded form. This is 6 cm plus allowances for seams of 1.5 cm, top and bottom, 1 cm on the sides. The detail of the leaflet is ready.

Parts preparation

  • To hide the lock under the leaf with a cloth, you need to prepare a strip of cloth . The width of the fastener is 1.5 cm, and the leaflets are 3 cm, so the strip will be 1.5 cm. On the fabric, measure the length of the leaflet, put 1.5 cm on both sides of the line, plus allowances for the seams.
  • Prepare the burlap . Its width is equal to the length of the part, and choose the depth as desired.
  • Received items cut.

Important! Details of burlap should be of different lengths, as one part is sewn above the leaflet, the second from the bottom.

Frame making

Draw a frame for the pocket on the product part. Its length will be equal to the length of the leaflet in the finished form. Fold the leaf in half and iron. Bend to the center line of the cut, secure with pins, grind with a machine. Leave 1 cm of free edge.

Attention! Sutures are ironed after each operation.

Zipper and pocket

  • We connect the fastener to the insert. We sharpen it on the left side of the castle, folding it with the front sides inward. We sew along the planned lines, not reaching 1 cm along the edges.
  • The second side of the part is applied to the frame end-to-end to the leaflet. We fix with pins and perform a seam along the planned lines.
  • Attach the smaller burlap detail to the edge of the zipper sewn to the extra strip. That is, lightning is obtained between the strip and burlap. The second edge is still free.
  • Cut the entrance to the pocket. Along the intended cut line, we make an incision to the notches into the corners of the frame, without cutting to the seam of 0.2 mm.

Shutdown

  • Unscrew the leaf with burlap through the frame on the wrong side.
  • To straighten the seams, fix the pocket incision with pins.
  • To the free part of the zipper on one side attach a leaflet. On the other, a long part of a burlap detail. Make a seam along the intended line.
  • Lay the side seams of the leaf equal to its width.

Attention! If the seams are made longer, wrinkles may result.

  • Lay a seam around the edge of the burlap pocket.

The set-in pocket with a leaf with a zipper is ready. It is easy to perform even a novice dressmaker.
