Faux Suede Shoes: Pros and Cons

Genuine suede shoes have always been highly regarded. This is displayed on its quality, appearance, and, of course, on the price. It is the price factor that does not suit some buyers. In view of this, they are increasingly turning to unnatural substitutes. We will understand what the advantages and disadvantages of faux suede shoes are.

What is faux suede for shoes?

Natural suede is a leather tanned in a special way. The synthetic material is made of polymers, in our case it is cotton-based polyester. At the last stage of manufacture, it is impregnated with Teflon, which makes the base strong.

It's important to know! An artificial substitute is cotton-based polyester.

Accordingly, natural and synthetic materials have different criteria. But in some cases they converge.

Pros of Faux Suede Shoes

Let's start with the positives. There are many of them in this material.

  1. Price. The first thing that attracts is a good price-appearance ratio. Sometimes a synthetic base cannot be distinguished from a natural one, but it costs several times cheaper.
  2. Uniform arrangement of villi. An unnatural base is made in a non-woven way (fibers are glued onto the fabric surface) or woven (a cotton cloth is passed through a special machine that turns the threads into fibers). Due to this, the villi are evenly distributed, no pores of the base or any seams are visible.
  3. Wear resistance and toughness. Due to the fact that the base has teflon impregnation, the material is resistant to many mechanical influences.

On a note! Despite the strength of the synthetic substitute, it still can not be compared with natural.

Cons of faux suede for shoes

The first drawback is, of course, unnaturalness. Although the appearance can not be distinguished, but according to the characteristics of genuine leather is different. Synthetic material yet:

  • not so durable;
  • leaks moisture more;
  • less durable;
  • loses attractive appearance faster;
  • leak air worse;
  • not so good in keeping warm.

Glossy spots quickly appear on synthetic material, due to the fact that the fibers are quickly worn away.

Should I buy faux suede shoes

Judging by the available pros and cons, artificial suede is quite good material. But it is worth noting that it is not suitable for all types of shoes.

So, it is better to buy warm winter and autumn boots from genuine leather, and choose artificial leather for shoes and sandals.
