School uniform of Soviet children: better or worse than today's

Do you remember your school uniform? What do you think, maybe you shouldn't have changed it? Anyway, graduates at the last call dress up in uniform dresses. Or are today's student outfits better? Let's figure it out!

What did the students of Soviet schools go to

Maybe you think that uniforms have always been in the Soviet Union. This is not entirely true. Pre-revolutionary student suits were canceled by the new government, and new ones did not appear immediately, but after the war, in 1948 .

What was the return clothing for students

Outwardly, it was very reminiscent of the one worn by boys and girls in pre-revolutionary times.

Boys without fail put on trousers and a shirt of gray shades . In addition - a wide belt with a large buckle, a cap with a cockade as a headdress.

For girls sewed clothes in brown. It was a dress below the knee with neat cuffs and lace collars.

Important! Any experiments with the length or style of the dress were prohibited. They severely punished for this.

An apron was always worn over the dress: everyday - black, festive - white. He tied a bow on the back.

Important! The hairstyle of the students was strictly stipulated: a pigtail with a black, brown or festive white bow. Haircuts for girls were not allowed!

This option lasted until 1962.

During the thaw

On September 1, 1962, the boys returned for their desks in an updated suit. The main change is the lack of a "spirit of war."

Reference. In a suit of boys there was no gymnast, a wide belt. Dark blue berets replaced the caps with a cockade.

The form began to be sewn of wool. The color scheme was still gray : a jacket with three buttons, trousers of a classic cut. A light plain shirt was put on under the jacket.

Dress for girls remained unchanged.

70s

Boys added colors, girls reduced the length. After a decade, clothes for schoolchildren changed again.

Boy's trousers began to be sewn from blue wool fabric.

Reference. The cut of the students' outer clothing resembled fashionable denim jackets. A small emblem is embroidered on the sleeve, which depicts an open book and the rising sun - a symbol of enlightenment.

It was necessary to wear badges. Primary school students had the Oktyabryatsky, middle classes - the pioneer, and senior students - the Komsomol badge. Among them was a special one - “For active work”. And the pioneers had red pioneer ties tied around their chests.

The only change in girl clothes during this time was the length of the dress . It was made a little shorter than before.

80s canceled dress

Student clothing received a significant transformation in 1984 .

Important! A traditional brown dress replaced the blue suit.

Schoolgirls began to walk in pleated skirts, vests and jackets that adorned newfangled patch pockets.

Recent changes in the Soviet school uniform

  • 1988 : clothes for schoolchildren began to allow different options depending on the region. On cold winters, girls were allowed to wear pants instead of skirts . This concerned the Far North, regions of Siberia and the Leningrad Region. Weakened the rules regarding hairstyles. For boys, trousers with a jacket were replaced with a blue trouser suit .
  • 1991 : since September 1, wearing a uniform has become optional .
  • 1994 : Legislative abolition of school clothes rules.

What Russian students wear

Attitude towards school uniforms has changed. For several years, it simply did not exist.

Reference. On September 1, 2013, school clothes began to return to the life of Russian schoolchildren, but only at the level of individual educational institutions.

They can establish a casual, formal and athletic form. It resembles corporate clothing that distinguishes schools or individual classes.

Important. Currently, a single form for all educational institutions does not exist.

In one school, management recommends a “white top, black bottom”, in another it establishes a single form for a particular class. Many establishments ban jeans. This and other prohibitions are specified in the school charter.

Reference. By 2020, the government plans to approve a national standard for school clothes, establish requirements for the quality of the material.

It is assumed that the child will be more comfortable in “breathing” clothes all day.

Which form is better: Soviet or Russian

The controversy surrounding school clothes does not subside. This topic is discussed not only at the country level, but also among parents and students themselves. At times, the question arises whether to return to its traditional form. Is it worth doing this? Was the Soviet uniform so good and comfortable?

The advantages of the Soviet form

The main advantage of the clothes of Soviet students is that it was uniform. This approach had several advantages:

  • uniforms disciplined;
  • a single style made social inequality less noticeable;
  • the established form made it easier for parents to prepare for the new school year.

disadvantages

At the same time, it is impossible not to see the minuses of school clothes of Soviet times.

  • Uniformity did not allow to show individuality, which did not like teenagers.
  • The chosen style did not take into account fashion trends, so it was perceived by high school students as old-fashioned.
  • The students did not have the opportunity to make a change in the form, for example, taking into account the season or weather changes.

It is hardly possible to unequivocally answer whether the old form was better. And what do you think?
