What do you need for sewing?
Knowing the basics of sewing, it will be easy to make an oval tablecloth.
- tailor's scissors;
- the cloth;
- tracing paper for a pattern;
- pencil, chalk or remnant;
- ruler, centimeter tape;
- pins
- thread with a needle;
- sewing machine;
- decorative elements: lace, fringe.
Usually they choose dense and natural materials, they look beautiful and drape well. The standard width of the fabric is 90 or 150 cm, if the tablecloth is wider, then make a seam in the middle.
Important! When choosing a fabric, you should pay attention so that there are no manufacturing defects on it.
The pattern should clearly repeat the oval of the countertop, for this they outline its outline. Do this either with the help of tracing paper, or directly on the material.
- They put the paper on the table and, pressing it down with something heavy in the four corners, draw a line along the edge of the countertop.
- The pattern of tracing paper is aligned and cut in the center.
- For cutting, the canvas is folded in half. Pins a paper pattern with pins, combining the folds.
- On the edge from all sides add 30-40 cm to the overhang and 1-2 cm to allowances.
- Outline with chalk. Cut along the contour.
Reference! The falling part of the tablecloth usually covers no more than 3/4 of the height of the table.
- They spread the canvas on the table, aligning the centers so that it hangs around the edges.
- Then measure the desired distance from the floor and mark with chalk. This distance depends on the desired hanging length of the tablecloth.
- After the marks are affixed, the fabric is laid out on a plane, for example, on a clean floor, the marks are connected.
- Fold the material in half, combining the lines, chip with pins and cut out.
Important! Before cutting, the fabric is subjected to wet-heat treatment so that it shrinks and there are no creases on it.
Every housewife who knows the basics of sewing can easily make a tablecloth for a festive feast. After cutting the fabric, according to the size of the table, it remains only to process the bottom of the product. This can be done by hemming the edge with a sewing machine.
There are several ways to easily make an even hem:
- Overcast the edge on the overlock. From the seamy side, mark 2 cm around the perimeter. Then draw the edge to the line, press it and sew it into the seam of the trimming on the sewing machine.
- Mark the front side 1 cm from the edge. Turn inside out along the line and sew with hand stitches. After ironing and stitching.
Advice! If a thin cord is sewn into the doorway, it will make the bottom heavier and improve drapery.
To make the tablecloth even more elegant, various frills or fringes are sewn to the bottom . You can place lace in the middle of the hanging part or along the edge of the product. Using it only for room decor, decorate with embroideries or applications in accordance with the interior. For dining tables, this decoration is not practical, as it complicates cleaning.
