How to sew a kigurumi

There are many costumes for adults and children in the world, but kigurumi occupies a special place. Let us consider in detail these creative costumes, and how to sew them yourself.

What is a kigurumi?

A huge number of modern ideas can not do without life-size puppets - this is kigurumi. But in ordinary life, these costumes are extremely inconvenient, and it’s a pleasure to walk in the obligatory mask - the muzzle!

There are kigurumi - carnival, theatrical costumes, as well as kigurumi - pajamas and costumes for the holidays.

Taking measurements

To build a pattern, we need:

  1. Girth of the chest - we take the measuring tape along the convex places at the shoulder blades, along the chest.
  2. Waist circumference - we measure at the thinnest part of the body.
  3. Girth of the hips - we lay a centimeter tape on the protruding part of the hips.
  4. Neck circumference - measure around the base of the neck, passing through the jugular cavity.
  5. Product length - from the base of the neck on the back to the desired length.
  6. Sleeve length - along the arm from the shoulder to the wrist, passing through the elbow.
  7. Torso length - measure the distance from the armhole to the expected bow line.
  8. Front width - we measure by the protruding points of the chest from one armhole to another.
  9. Seat height - measure while sitting on a chair, perpendicular to the chair.
  10. Knee line - we are laying on the pattern parallel to the edge along the knee height. We measure from the supposed edge of the leg to the knee.
  11. Head height - along the nape from the shoulders to the crown of the head.

Fabric preparation and cutting

Before cutting, we process the fabric through a wet iron. Perhaps the material will "sit down . " If the markers allow, wash, then dry the fabric.

Important! Be careful with fluffy matter - some of its types can not be ironed.

Cutting fabric:

  • The patterns are laid out in the direction of the shared thread, remember that the knitwear stretches in the transverse direction.
  • We fold the matter in half, lay out the patterns, chop them with a cloth with pins.
  • Circle the patterns with chalk, soap or pencil . We do not use a ballpoint pen - there is a chance that it will not be removed.
  • Cut the workpiece.
