How to care for a suede bag?

Women's suede bag is a very popular accessory.

A unique advantage of such things is the combination of convenience, practicality and sophisticated elegance.

But for such a thing to last as long as possible, it will not be superfluous to know the basic rules for caring for bags of this kind.

Suede Differences

Natural suede is a soft, polished leather of a specific finish. This skin type has a nap that is pleasant to the touch and is velvety on both sides. This material stretches easily without losing shape. Thanks to the fat treatment, suede is resistant to moisture.

Reference! Suede is made from the skins of moose, deer and sheep, using fat and formaldehyde-fat tanning.

Faux suede is a material that outwardly hardly differs from natural. The composition of this material is quite simple: cotton, polyester and glue based on PVA .

To increase resistance to various kinds of negative influences, suede has teflon impregnation. Faux suede successfully combines softness, grace and style of natural suede with the wear resistance of modern materials.

How to care for (clean) a suede bag at home?

Often, the fair sex refuses to purchase a suede bag because of the widespread opinion about the difficulty of caring for such material. Meanwhile, this is not so difficult at all, you just need to consider some important nuances.

Faux suede

Water repellent spray

It is necessary to shake the container with the product, evenly apply a thin layer on a clean and dry surface of the product and leave for 10 minutes to fully absorb the aerosol. After that, you just need to comb the surface of the bag with a special suede brush.

Shampoo washing suede

In a small amount of water, it is necessary to dilute a little shampoo (not more than 20 g per 1 liter of water) until a thick foam mass is obtained. Then with a sponge with a hard pad, you need to apply the resulting solution to the surface of the bag and rub the contaminated places. After cleaning, wash the sponge well under water and remove any soap solution from the treated areas.

Special tools for suede

To care for such a product, you must have:

  • a polymer sponge or a soft cloth with small villi;
  • double-sided brush for cleaning suede surfaces with a pile of rubber;
  • special water repellent;
  • aerosols to remove stains from suede coatings.

What is unacceptable to use?

Do not use a brush with a metal or overly hard bristle to clean a suede surface. This can cause punctures, as a result of which the thing will become unusable and will have to be thrown away.

You can also not use acetone, chemical stain removers and degreasing solvents to clean such bags.

How to remove oily stains?

Before starting cleaning, it is first necessary to remove dirt and dust from the surface of the product using a soft-bristled brush for this purpose.

Absorbent

A fresh greasy stain needs to be blotted with a paper towel to prevent its further increase. Then, with any absorbent substance (soda, toothpowder, talcum powder or crushed chalk), it is necessary to sprinkle the contaminated area and leave it for several hours, after which the remnants of the product must be removed with a brush.

Detergent

You can clean such a bag from heavy pollution by using liquid soap or dishwashing detergent for this purpose. 20 ml of such a product should be dissolved in 1 liter of water. Then with this solution you need to treat the surface with a brush, then removing the remains with a dry sponge. After that, the product must be dried.

Ammonia

To clean the product from suede in this way, you need to prepare the appropriate solution. For this, ammonia must be dissolved in water in a ratio of 1: 4. In the resulting solution, you need to moisten the cotton pad, and treat them with the necessary places, soaking them after that with a damp cloth. After this, the product must be dried and treated with a special brush.

Refined gasoline

This substance should be used in a cleaned form and with care so as not to damage the bag. It is necessary to moisten a cotton pad in gasoline, and gently wipe it with the contaminated area of the product surface. After 10 minutes, the treatment site should be sprinkled with fine salt, then shake it off and sprinkle again. After 5 minutes, the product must be brushed with a rubber bristle.

How to handle overgrown places?

Over time, patchy areas may appear on the suede surface. This is because a considerable amount of dirt accumulates in the suede fibers, which is compressed by moisture or fat. Such areas can be put in order in one of the following ways.

Eraser

The suede surface can be cleaned with an ordinary rubber (eraser), which erases a simple pencil. For this, it is necessary to gently rub the patched areas with an eraser. The softer the rubber, the better the result.

Important! The eraser should be completely clean. Otherwise, this method can lead to even greater contamination of the surface of the product.

Soda with milk

You can use a composition made from soda and milk with a low percentage of fat content. The ingredients must be taken in a ratio of 1: 1. The resulting mixture should be applied to contaminated areas and left for 10-15 minutes. Then, with a slightly damp cloth, remove any remaining liquid and dry the bag.

This mixture will not only remove the shine from the overgrown areas, but also refresh the color of the product.

The specifics of cleaning light, brown and colored bags

If wrinkled folds have formed on the bag, they can be put in order by sanding with minimal grit. To remove stains from the surface of the product, it is recommended to use natural materials: dried coffee grounds (suitable for brown products ), salt or semolina (suitable for light products ).

For dark bags, a crust of rye bread is also suitable, which needs to be rubbed on the overgrown place.

Bright items can be cleaned with ammonia. To do this, mix 1 part ammonia with 5 parts water. In the resulting solution, moisten the sponge and treat the contaminated surface areas. Then the treated area must be wiped with a cotton swab dipped in a solution of vinegar.

Can I wash suede?

If there is a need for washing bags made of suede, this should be done very carefully. Products from such a material should be washed manually in a basin with slightly warm soapy water.

Do not wet the material strongly, you only need to rinse the product.

Important! You cannot rub and twist such a product!

Proper drying

Suede must be dried naturally at room temperature, away from heat sources. The product should be placed on any flat surface and left for 10-12 hours. Suede should not be dried in direct sunlight, with this kind of exposure, this material burns out very quickly and becomes coarse.

Prevention of pollution - the key to the fact that the product will last a long time, while maintaining an attractive appearance. With timely and careful care, a suede bag will delight the owner with its grace for a long time.
