Wool flowers wet felting

In ancient times, it was enough for a person to rest with his eyes on flowering meadows and fields. But the thought came to him to create something man-made and just as delightful. So floristry was born. The creative nature of this was not enough. An idea arose to convey my vision of the plant world with the help of wool felting.

How to pile a flower from wool using the technique of wet felting?

In the "wool floristry" flowers are one of the main elements. And it’s no coincidence that the ylang-ylang flower was chosen for the master class . It differs from other plants not only in a rich smell, but also in curiously elongated twisting petals.

Materials and Tools

  • Wool. Choose three colors: light green, bright yellow and orange brown.

The buds of ylang-ylang at the beginning of flowering do not differ from the surrounding light green foliage. At the time of full disclosure, the shade of the petals changes to bright yellow, and before they fall, they turn orange-brown.

  • Air bubble film. It is on this coating that the wool fibers fall best.
  • Soap solution. Add a small amount of liquid soap to hot water.
  • Sprayer or small sprayer for flowers. For applying the solution to the workpiece.

Do not use a plastic bottle with holes in the cork for this purpose. This method does not give a small drop spray. The workpiece can move under the stream of water.

  • Mosquito net.
  • A truncated cone shape. It is necessary for the formation of the bud after washing the product. You can use a small plastic or glass bottle, a rolling pin handle.
  • Skim milk (twenty milliliters). To stiffen the petals.
  • Towel.

Master Class

Spread the bubble film on a moisture-resistant surface.

Calculation

We spread a flat flower from bright yellow wool with sharp petals.

Each ylang-ylang bud is extended up to eight centimeters in length. Prepare strands of wool twice as long. When the wool fibers settle down after felting, we get petals of a natural size.

Sequencing:

  1. Pull the fibers from the bright yellow combed ribbon and lay in the shape of a snowflake. The flower has six petals, respectively, your "snowflake" should have six rays of the same density and thickness.
  2. Place the tips of the strands that you hold on to when tearing off the wool (they are thicker and denser), place in the middle of the flower.
  3. "Draw" the glare. Pull thin bundles of fibers from the orange-brown combed ribbon. Gently spread the top layer on each petal.

Wet felting

Moisten the workpiece with soapy water and cover with a mosquito net. Rub your petals with your hands. Do it carefully, the layout should not shift.

Remove the net periodically so that it does not lean against the coat. Form with your fingers the even edges of the petals. Extend the tips by twisting in curls.

Roll for a long time, sometimes turn the workpiece from one side to the other.

After the petals are ready, set aside the workpiece. We begin to roll the core and leg.

Central detail - core and foot are one

Separate the harness from the comb tape of light green. Its length should be twice as long as that assumed for the finished product.

Soak two-thirds of the tow in soapy water. Roll it with your hands in the form of a sausage (flower leg).

Disassemble the dry part of the tourniquet into separate strands and arrange them in the form of a fan (core). Moisten with soapy water, cover with a mosquito net and wallow with your hands. After some time, it is necessary to remove the mesh and manually re-fill the petals.

Rinse, dry

We wash the blanks in running water and give them the shape of a ilag-ylang flower. This can be done by putting them on any item in the shape of a truncated cone with smooth bends. Smooth and straighten both parts one at a time. Curl the long tips of the petals.

We collect

It’s easy to pick up a flower, because you don’t need to sew anything or attach it with a felting needle.

  1. Make a small hole in the middle of the workpiece with bright yellow petals.
  2. Take the central part and tie a knot on the leg immediately below its light green petals. Pass into the flower bowl. The core is ready.
  3. To fix the entire structure, it is enough to tie another knot on the leg, but already under a bowl of bright yellow petals.

In order for the flower to become a decor item, you need to add rigidity to the product.

Stiffen

Take milk, apply it on a cup of flower and on the petals (apply with your hands, gently stroking and tightening the ends). After drying, milk casein will add density to the product, which will help maintain the shape of the petals.

Some tips for just starting out

A flower can become your aphrodisiac. Add two drops of ylang-ylang essential oil to the milk, which is used to stiffen the petals . After finishing work on the flower, hang it in the bedroom.

Model the length of the legs depending on the purpose of the product. The flower can be worn in the form of a brooch, bracelet, belt. The original decoration of the interior will be hanging from above the inflorescences of the "fluttering" flower.
