What types of buttons are

A button is a small product made of solid material that is used as a fastener on clothes or as a decor element on other garments. There is a fairly large classification of fittings, which defines several main varieties.

Types of buttons

Today in the stores of fabrics and accessories you can find a huge number of varieties of buttons. They differ in characteristics, appearance and material of manufacture. They are usually classified according to the following criteria:

  • according to the material of manufacture (halalite, glass, mother-of-pearl, wood and others);
  • by size (diameter in millimeters);
  • as intended (used for different types of clothing, for example, coats, trousers, underwear or uniforms);
  • in appearance (many criteria are taken into account here, such as shape, smoothness or bump, color);
  • according to the method of fastening (there are several varieties that differ in the number of holes or design.

Important! When sewing and attaching accessories, it is important to use the appropriate type of buttons. For example, when sewing a coat, large sizes and stronger fasteners are used. Buttons are used widely in diameter, from 26 mm, usually with four holes for fastening.

Most often, when talking about species, people imagine a way of attaching this button to clothes. Allocate flat accessories with 2 or 4 holes for sewing, clasps on the leg, a Canadian and a rivet that does not require sewing. To determine their difference, you need to imagine how they look and learn methods of sewing on clothes.

Flat with holes

This is the most popular form that is used universally. They exist with two or four holes for sewing. There is also a rarer view of such accessories - with three holes.

Flat buttons can be of various diameters and designed for different types of clothing. Their differences are noticeable on the male and female attire. For men, these are more concise and simple shapes and colors, while accessories for women's clothing are distinguished by sophistication, originality of forms and a variety of colors.

On a leg or with a loop

A volumetric view of buttons, which is most often sewn to products made of dense fabric. Usually they are small, flat or slightly convex in shape, as well as an eye on the back for comfortable sewing to the fabric. Such accessories look great on women's suits and blouses, dresses, skirts and other products. In some cases, such fasteners are used for needlework and arts and crafts.

Important! Buttons with a buttonhole are often trimmed with the same fabric as the product itself. This gives an image of elegance and originality.

Canadian

This is an unusual type of buttons found on uniforms or sportswear used in difficult conditions. Its feature is two parallel elongated holes. A kiper tape (textile high-strength sling) is fixed in them, which is subsequently sewn to the clothes with a durable seam.

The fastener itself is able to freely move along the tape on which it is located. This ensures its almost complete invulnerability during shock loads and sudden movements.

Rivet

This is an indispensable contribution to the clothing industry. Invisible rivets are used in different types of clothes and are widely used for decorating some things, for example, bags. Rivets are metal clips that are attached to clothes with a special machine. Connecting, the two sides of the rivet, fasten together parts of a textile product.

Important! When choosing clothes, you need to make sure that the rivets are firmly fixed to the clothes. Otherwise, the falling out fastener can completely ruin the thing and make it unusable.

The variety of buttons presented in the atelier and shops is amazing. A particularly wide selection is noted for women's clothing. You can find accessories imitating precious stones or metals, as well as acquire richly trimmed clasps on the leg. The fantasy of a needlewoman can be almost endless.
