What kind of yarn dralon

This yarn is 70% synthetic polyacrylonitrile fiber (Dralon). The remaining 30% includes other natural or synthetic yarns. Fiber Dralon was developed by the world-famous German company Bayer in the 70s. On his account, many inventions: drugs, various chemical inventions that are used in agriculture.

How to get

Polyacrylonitrile fiber (Dralon) is obtained from acrylonitrile and its copolymers by polymerization.

Stages of fiber manufacturing:

  1. Forming (from a special dope solution in a dry or wet way).
  2. Pulling (5-8 times on a spinning machine).
  3. Solvent washing.
  4. Staining.
  5. Drying (made to fix the coloring matter).
  6. Heat treatment (increases the thermal properties of the fiber, resistance to abrasion and deformation, and also reduces the ability to shrink).

Thanks to various manufacturing methods, fibers of different composition can be obtained. They will differ in chemical and physical properties. That is why they have so many names:

  • nitron;
  • an eagle;
  • acrylan;
  • kashmilon;
  • kurtel;
  • Volprühl, etc.

In Russia, it is better known as nitron.

The outer and inner layers of the thread have a homogeneous structure without visible differences. However, under a microscope on the fibers, you can distinguish irregularities, folds and wrinkles.

Features and properties

They produce fiber from 3.7 to 10.2 cm long. It can withstand temperatures up to 235 degrees. The threads that make up the dralon have water repellent properties. Therefore, products from this yarn dry quickly. Thanks to teflon impregnation of threads, the yarn repels dirt. Therefore, the products are well cleaned in a dry way (just rub and shake).

By its mechanical properties, Dralon resembles natural wool.

Dralon Properties:

  1. Good thermoregulation (better than wool).
  2. Resistant to fading.
  3. Keeps shape perfectly after washing.
  4. Soft and silky to the touch.
  5. Elastic.
  6. Wear resistant.
  7. Resistant to deformation.
  8. Not electrified.
  9. There are no harmful substances in the composition.

IMPORTANT: Yarn Dralon does not need ironing.

Chemical properties:

  1. Does not swell in water.
  2. Resistant to mineral acids, concentrated solutions and oxidizing agents.
  3. Resistant to various microorganisms (it is not afraid of moths and termites).

You can use dry cleaning.

Application area

Dralon yarn is available in various colors. Shades are saturated and juicy. They do not fade in the sun, so the dralon is often used in sewing curtains, bedding, bedspreads and various wraps.

Due to its resistance to sunlight and weather, the fabric from this fiber is used for upholstery of outdoor furniture (summer verandas, umbrellas, tents, terraces).

Needlewomen use Dralon yarn to knit socks, slippers, sweaters, hats and even outerwear (coats, cardigans).

Dralon is used for the manufacture of carpets, as well as rugs and blankets, as it perfectly retains heat and is pleasant to the body.

Polyacrylonitrile fibers are used in technical needs for the manufacture of concrete, roofing plates, pipes, they replace asbestos. Also, these fibers are processed into carbon fibers.

If you have never used Dralon yarn before, then it's time to start. After all, it has long been widely used by lovers of needlework, as well as in furniture production, and has established itself well in the market.
