Beginner athletes often lose their desire to continue training because of the discomfort that the wrong shoes can create. Those who started running should pay attention to studs.
What are studs?
Shoe Design Description
- stiffness;
- the presence of depreciation;
- number, location and stiffness of the spikes.
Important! There are universal studs that can be used at the initial stage of sports. If specialization has already been selected, it is advisable to acquire spikes designed for a specific athletics discipline.
Differences from Simple Sneakers
As for studs, these are purely specialized shoes designed for certain sports.
The main differences between studs and sneakers:
- light weight and the size of the studs allows the legs not to feel tired for a long time during training;
- specific specialization of certain types of studs;
- increased comfort achieved by cushioning, studs and special sole material.
Important! Studs are not designed for running on asphalt!
Types of Studs
There are various types of sports shoes that are chosen depending on the discipline for which they are intended. Let's consider some of them in more detail.
For running
Sprinter studs for running at distances of up to 400 m are the lightest in weight and have the most rigid sole - in professional shoes it practically does not bend . The spikes here are located in front of the sole, which is pulled up, which allows the runner not to lose speed when pushing away from the treadmill. Since the foot with this type of run practically does not fall to the ground completely, depreciation is not necessary.
In studs for distances from 400 m to 1500 m, the sole is also bent upward in the toe region, however, the bend is less pronounced . Cushioning in the sole is and is offset towards the heel. The location of the spikes differs from models for short distances: they are on the inside closer to the toe, and on the sides of the sole closer to the middle.
Long distances are covered in studs with flatter, softer and thicker soles. A stiff plate is inserted into the nose, and the tread in the heel area is rough to prevent slipping on the road.
For jumping
For athletics
For running with obstacles, for example, spikes are made of mesh material, so that the water that has fallen from the pits immediately flows from the shoes. In addition, the spikes on the sole do not have sharp endings so that they do not stick into the obstacle that the athlete steps in the process of overcoming the distance.
Cross-country running shoes and orienteering shoes are designed to protect the athlete’s foot from being damaged by stones and sticks, therefore such models are available on thick flexible soles with a pronounced tread pattern. The spikes on such a pair are longer than for running in the stadium.
