Materials and Tools
Having decided to sew a stylish and comfortable string bag, we will prepare the following.
- Cloak fabric . This material has a water-repellent impregnation, is thin, durable and compact. It is easily erased, does not require ironing.
TIP. You can sew your first author's string bag from outdated jackets or a raincoat if the fabric is not worn.
- Lined fabric .
- Sewing machine, scissors, threads, pins .
- Ruler (centimeter tape) .
- Materials for decor : it can be a simpler option - a bright thermal sticker or a strip of tape, contrasting or in tone with the main fabric. Truly creative people - brush and acrylic paints in hand! Jewelry like rhinestones or beads are hardly appropriate for such a thing.
TIP. A shopping bag will have to hold a rather large load. You can seal it with a serpyanka - a construction mesh tape with an adhesive base.
This material is placed between the fabric of the bag and the lining.

Having thought over the design of the future product, we proceed to the creation of a household masterpiece.
Details and their patterns
The given dimensions are approximate; their increase or decrease is possible. Do not forget about seam allowances! Bag will be collected from:
- two main parts (30 x 46 cm);
- 2 "sides" (8 x 46 cm);
- two pens (8 x 50 cm).
It’s good to equip the product with a pocket - external or internal. You can add one long dense strap that allows you to carry the bag on your shoulder.
TIP . It is recommended that you first make a paper bag mockup by gluing all the details: you might want to resize or proportions.
Sewing process step by step
Having finally approved the dimensions and cut out the blanks, we collect the string bag.
- We sew a rectangle from the main and side parts. Combined fabrics will look original: different from the base of the side and pockets or multi-colored “back” and “front”.
TIP. Decorative seams laid outside will help make the bag more durable and durable.
- We make the same rectangle on a lining.
- We form the “bottom”: having folded the base inside out, we sew the bottom. Flatten the seam, gently fold the resulting corners on the sides, then sew from one side to the other with a line at forty-five degrees perpendicular to the bottom seam. We do the same with the lining.
- We connect the top of the base with the top of the lining with pins, sew on a typewriter.
- Having turned out the bag, carefully straighten the top, bend the allowances inward, process it on a typewriter.
- We sew handles and pockets (pockets).
- We pick up a brush, open the paint, give free rein to imagination. Or - glue a catchy sticker.
