How to sew gloves from knitwear

Knitted gloves are a very practical and versatile accessory. After all, knitwear is not “capricious” material: after deformation or washing, gloves will not lose their shape and will look neat, while warming your hands. Every person who tries to dress stylishly must have such a pair of gloves. After all, they will fit any image - simply, but with taste. Of course, you can go to the store and find your perfect match there. But you must admit that it will be doubly pleasant if you sew this accessory with your own hands, because hand-made things carry a special warmth.

How to build a pattern of gloves from knitwear

Everyone who has never been involved in sewing, pattern-building and doing it for the first time can do this. Everything will turn out, if you believe in yourself. To build a pattern, we need:

  • thick paper / cardboard
  • pencil or pen
  • our hand

Put your hand on a piece of thick paper and circle it with a pencil. The main thing is that the line is clear and continuous. According to the pattern of our hand, we model the gloves: in the space between the thumb we make a tuck and extend the line of the wrist for comfortable wear. Pattern is ready. It remains only to cut out the template without allowance (with gloves the allowances are minimal). And crop the set-in thumb.

We apply the pattern to the knitted fabric and circle the resulting sample, making a very small allowance. At the same time, make sure that when drawing the contour on the fabric, the parts do not move. We cut out parts for two hands from the fabric, including parts for the thumbs. When marking patterns on fabrics, we extend the product as desired.

Important! Stressing the fragments, paying attention to the line: it is made very narrow to the edge of the knitwear, literally 3 mm from the edge.

We chop off the details between each other for convenience in folding the product. Parts of gloves are carefully wiped between each other. Before stitching parts on a typewriter with soap, mark the place for the part, for the thumb on both sides. We sew these fragments with very thin seams, without touching the marked area for the thumb. Since the jersey stretches well when stitching, we stretch the fabric slightly.

Next, sew the part of the thumb. And then we sew on the typewriter fragments for each finger: first on the sides, and then on the tip. We also process the edge of the product. We do the same actions with the blank for the other hand. We have made wonderful knitted gloves that are designed specifically for your hand.
