How to sew fleece to a knitted hat

Winter knitted hat requires lining. Otherwise, the loose fabric is blown by the wind. The easiest material to use is fleece. It is inexpensive, you can choose any color, the edges do not crumble, do not require processing. You can insulate the accessory in half an hour. Conveniently? Not that word! We’ll tell you how to do it yourself.

Materials and tools for work

Fleece is a synthetic material, but it does not prevent the skin from breathing. It can have different density and thickness.

REFERENCE! For home clothes and as a heater, medium-density (200 g / m) or dense (300 g / m) material is usually used. If the hat is made of high-quality merino wool, alpaca, which is warm in itself, then thin fleece (100 g / m) can be taken to protect the ears from blowing.

Pile happens on one or both sides, it does not matter. Before sewing, the material must be washed, checked for shrinkage, the reliability of the paint.

For work, you will still need the following:

  • threads
  • scissors;
  • needle;
  • pencil / remnant / crayon;
  • tape measure.

As for the threads, it is better to choose them in the tone of the hat so that nothing shines through from the outside. Since the fleece is fleecy, from the inside the seam in it will “sink”. It will be even more accurate and more convenient if the accessory and insulation are the same color.

TIP! If the fleece is light in color, then for the pattern it is not recommended to use bright pencils or felt-tip pens, they can not be erased. It is wiser to take a regular chalk of contrasting color.

How to prepare a fleece lining

The lining should follow the shape of the head. The cap should initially be tied a little more, usually make a margin of one centimeter .

The pattern is built of four or six triangular wedges.

Simple pattern

The easiest way is to circle the folded hat immediately on the fleece and make a 10 cm incision from the top in the center. Two such parts are sewn together, and two intersecting seams come from above.

Classic pattern

The classic lining is done in a different way.

  • Measure the fleece flap equal to the circumference of the head plus 1 cm for the seam and 2 cm for freedom of fit. The height is equal to the depth of the cap, 1 cm will go away when stitching.
  • Divide and chalk the resulting flap into 4 or 6 parts, draw vertical lines.
  • At 2/3 of the height mark the points, draw in chalk the triangular wedges that will be the crown.
  • Cut the part, make a connecting seam, close the part into a ring.
  • Sew all triangular wedges between each other.

The result should be a simple hat in the form of a dome . You should immediately measure it on your head, check the size.

TIP! If a pompom is to be attached to a knitted hat on ribbons, then you should immediately take care of the holes in the lining. Simply leave two holes in the seams from different sides at a distance of 2-3 cm from the crown.

How to sew a lining to a knitted hat

Although the fleece does not require edge treatment, it is important to sew the lining to the cap correctly. Otherwise, it will spin, puff. Nothing should look out. Regardless of the pattern, the lining is sewn with a slight indent of 3-5 millimeters.

Step-by-step process

  • Insert the lining. Check that her seam is located at the back. With it, sewing will begin. For reliability, you can pin fleece to a knitted fabric with sewing pins in several places.
  • Thread the needle, make a knot. Insert the needle into the lining so that the bundle remains inside between the knitted fabric and the fleece.
  • Sew in small and frequent stitches over the edge.

If desired, the lining can be sewn to the top of the cap with fixing stitches or left so. If the pompom will be attached to the ribbons, then it will completely hold the two tops, nothing to puff and will not fall out.

How to sew fleece to a knitted baby hat

Sometimes in an adult knitted hat they simply sew a strip of material 10-15 centimeters wide. It protects the ears and the main part of the head, this can be done. If the hat is for the child, then it is important to play it safe, cut out the closed lining and even make ears.

Step-by-step lining fabrication

  • Fold the baby hat in half, place on two layers of fleece, outline with chalk around the perimeter, including the ears.
  • Cut out the details. Make a cut in the middle of each. Sew the inner cap with a needle.
  • Insert the lining, check the fit.
  • Hem the fleece lining to the knitted baby hat with small stitches over the edge.

You can cut out the most ordinary lining and make ears separately (not necessarily from fleece, cotton, knitwear will do) . In this case, they are the first to be sewn. It is important that nothing looks outside. Then the inner cap is inserted, it will hide the edges of the ears.
