How to remove glue from rhinestones from clothes?

Rhinestones often fall off, and unsightly marks remain on clothing. Restoring their numbers can be an impossible task, but you can remove traces and get rid of slightly annoyed jewelry. How to remove stains from glue, what means and methods should be used in this case, read more about this.

What kind of glue do rhinestones glue on?

To attach sequins to the fabric of a dress, blouse or blouse, various glue compositions are used in the production. The fulfillment of the task - dissolving and removing traces of fastening of rhinestones - depends on how correctly we can determine the composition of the glue . Each type has its own methods for removing chemical residues from the material.

Rhinestones can be attached to the fabric with different types of glue:

  • thermoplastic. When heated, epoxy fills the entire interfiber space, and hardens at negative temperature;
  • epoxy cold fixation. With this method of application, the cooled composition also becomes solid, with strong cooling - brittle, and when heated it melts;
  • Water based PVA. It is used only for the production of cheap clothes, it keeps rhinestones poorly, but it is highly soluble in water;
  • silicone. The interfiber space does not fill, holds spangles, remaining on the surface, melts during heat treatment.

Methods for removing glue from rhinestones from clothes

If the composition is known, then you can easily determine the correct way to clean the fabric from traces. More often there are cases when the method of attachment of the rhinestone is unclear, therefore, the removal of glue is carried out empirically after a visual examination of the spot remaining on the material.

Important! When choosing a way to remove glue, try the appropriate methods on those areas of the fabric that are less noticeable.

Heat up

This method can only be applied to compositions that will soften and melt at high temperature. Algorithm of actions:

  • on an ironing board or other horizontal surface place the product with traces of rhinestones in such a way that a layer of white paper covers it from above and below, and from the wrong side between the paper and clothes, lay a soft cotton cloth;
  • start ironing the material on paper from the face, gradually increasing the temperature to the allowed maximum value;
  • the glue should melt and soak into the cotton pad;
  • Use a sponge, eraser, or tissue to remove any residue.

Important! Acting on the same principle, you can work with a soldering iron in compliance with safety precautions. At the moment of glue softening, it is removed, neatly pinned by a sharp blade. You need to work very quickly - the glue can cool.

To freeze

Deep freezing can destroy the structure of most compositions applied in the molten state. PVA and casein are easily removed if they are soaked with water before being placed in the freezer. As a result of exposure to low temperatures, the glue is easily removed from the material, leaving it intact.

The essence of the method is to place the product in the freezer for 6 hours or more . Pre-pack your clothes in a bag so that it does not get dirty and does not freeze to the walls. After this procedure, gently tap the hammer on the spot, the glue should crumble into pieces. Now it is easy to remove from clothes. If fragments remain, then further work needs to be continued with a hard brush.

Wash

Such a thermal method is applicable if you need to remove the composition, melted at high temperature. The product is washed in the machine in the hottest water recommended for this type of fabric . Put the clothes on the drum and start the washing process for 2 hours or more. At the end of the process, all or most of the glue should be removed.

Natural white fabrics are cleaned of rhinestones by washing in a machine with a detergent and soda. The program in this case also needs to choose the longest. Soda forms an alkaline environment, and adhesive traces completely disappear.

Solvent

Natural fabrics can be cleaned with any chemical solvents, only acids and liquids with chlorine are prohibited. The first will corrode any tissue, and chlorine will discolor. To a certain type of glue, its own solvent is also applied:

  • silicone or acrylic will remove acetone. Soak the problem area in the solvent for a while, and then remove the glue residue with napkins or a clean cloth;
  • epoxy resin neutralizes turpentine. Applied from the outside and inside, it removes glue in the process of wiping the stain with a tissue or tampons;
  • similarly use gasoline, white spirit, nail polish remover;
  • to get rid of a specific odor, whitish stains and greasy stains after working with solvents, wash the problem areas with medical alcohol, wash the product several times and ventilate it.

Important! Before starting to clean the stain, try the interaction of the solvent with a cloth on the inconspicuous inner part of the product.

And if the fabric is delicate - how to remove the glue?

Turpentine, gasoline, acetone can not be used for many types of tissue. Delicate materials must be cleaned by gentle freezing or using another solvent - dimexide . This is a medicine that is sold in any pharmacy, but removes adhesive traces from any type of tissue, including thin, delicate.

Dimexide for work is bred with water . The ratio needs to be selected depending on the type of fabric, but you should start with the most transparent solution, in which there will be a maximum amount of water.

Security measures

In order to save your favorite thing, but not to suffer at the same time, be sure to adhere to personal safety measures:

  • all work in special gloves;
  • When cleaning with solvents, do not eat, drink or smoke;
  • If a chemical accidentally gets into your eyes, wash them thoroughly with running water, and before doing so, wash your hands with soap. In the case of a chemical burn, do not hesitate to seek the help of specialists ;
  • Be sure to ventilate the room in which you work;
  • Small children and pets should be removed from the room during cleaning.
