How to hem curtains

An important component in completing interior design are curtains that give warmth and comfort in all rooms of the house. With the help of them you can create natural light in the home, and in the dark, close windows from unnecessary attention from the street. You can use the easier way for these purposes - hang the blinds. But home comfort can create only high-quality clothing for windows.

In stores, it is quite difficult to choose a finished product that will fully fit in size, so there is a need to fit to the desired length. In this situation, you can use the services of the studio. But it is better and cheaper to hem the fabrics at home, all the more it is not so difficult if you follow all the recommendations.

In practice, there are several options for filing: universal - using a sewing machine, manual method and using adhesive tape. The latter option is the easiest, especially for beginners in this matter.

It is necessary to do certain steps: bend the fabric to the desired length, walk the iron along the seam, put the double-sided tape in the fold of the allowance and hold the iron on the fabric. The pluses include the ease and seamlessness of execution, and the disadvantages - after a few washings, the edges begin to paste over. This is fixable - you need to remove the old layer of tape and apply a fresh one.

Important! If the tape is used on heavy fabrics or the hem is wide, it is better to stick it in two rows.

With the manual method, using a secret (almost imperceptible) seam, the following actions are performed. A needle with a thread of color, close to the shade of the curtains, is taken and hemmed from the wrong side, picking up one thread of fabric, while not piercing through. This option is quite labor intensive.

Sewing curtains using a sewing machine requires certain skills in this matter. Care must be taken so that the fabric does not stretch during operation. For this purpose, first we manually flash and iron the material, and only then we flash it on a typewriter.

When processing seams, it is necessary to take into account the density of the material: double bending is suitable for thin, for a thicker fabric it is better to use a single one so that the seams do not seem too voluminous.
