How to hang a curtain

The presence of “bare” windows in a room will attract few people with its appearance. The window takes up a lot of space in the room and the absence of “clothes” on it will immediately catch your eye, even with a cursory glance.

Therefore, you need to take care of the presence of curtains and devices on the windows that will hold them. Before proceeding with the installation, you need to know about the varieties. Depending on the material of the curtain, there are:

  • Metal. They will approach an extraordinary design style.
  • Plastic They are perfect for rooms that have plastic windows.
  • Wooden. The best option for their use is to mount in rooms where there is a lot of furniture made of wood or wooden decorative products.
  • Combined.

Depending on the form, such curtains are distinguished:

  • round, which can be with one, two or three pipes;
  • profile, consisting of one, two or three rows;
  • strings out of fashion today;
  • baguette;

Before proceeding with the installation, you need to understand and understand what type of design your design belongs to. Of there are only three types:

  1. Telescopic. It looks like a pipe of small diameter, with a rather large cross section. It is mounted using brackets on hooks or screws.
  2. Round. This is a decorative curtain having special rings for fastening. During its installation, profiles are used that are attached to the product kit.
  3. Tire. It has a flat shape and grooves for hooks that are inside it itself. To mount it, profiles or self-tapping screws can also be used.

By the method of attachment to the plane, only 2 types are distinguished:

  1. Ceiling mount. Such installation is possible only if a hanging niche has been installed in advance. Most often string and profile curtains are attached to the ceiling.
  2. Mount to the wall. If a niche is not provided on the ceiling, then fastening is possible only to the wall. In addition, if you purchased a round curtain, then attaching it to the wall is the only possible option.

Rail and baguette products are quite versatile, and can be installed both on the wall and on the ceiling.

Sometimes, the weight of curtains can be rather big, therefore it is worth approaching the choice of fasteners extremely responsibly. After all, choosing the wrong option, you will not be able to enjoy the beauty of your window for a long time, because the curtain will not stand and will fall along with the curtain that it had to hold.

Regardless of the type of curtain retention you choose, the main thing remains is its high-quality fixation to the surface of the wall or ceiling. To successfully fix the cornice, you will need the following tools:

  • drill;
  • curtain with fasteners;
  • level;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • epoxy glue or liquid nails;
  • pencil or marker;

How to attach a curtain to the wall

An experienced specialist this procedure does not take more than 15 minutes. If a beginner takes up the matter, then a little more time will be required. Having prepared all the necessary equipment for installation, you can proceed to the direct installation of the cornice. Its installation is carried out in several stages:

  1. Markup. This is an essential part of the process. To make a marking, it is necessary to put three notation: one in the middle of the wall and the hinged version, and the other two - backing from the edges by 10-15 centimeters. Carrying out the marking, you need to focus only on the wall, and not on the window frame. This will hang the curtain evenly.
  2. Drilling If the drill penetrates the wall too simply, then a large layer of plaster is applied to it, and it will not be able to withstand the mass of the cornice and curtains. To solve this problem, the required hole is drilled into which liquid nails or epoxy glue is poured and a wooden cork is inserted. At the same time, heavy penetration of the drill is also fraught with consequences. You have to resort to using a punch. Such work is more energy-consuming, but this will allow the product to hold curtains of any mass. After that, fasteners are fixed on the wall surface with self-tapping screws or anchors.
  3. Fastening. The assembly of the structure directly depends on the product you have chosen. The plastic cornice has a tight guide through which the mount will pass. Then the whole installation is closed with a decorative part, and you get a finished one-piece design. The cornice, which looks like a round stick, requires immersing one end in a groove and putting on a ring with restrictive elements. On this, the installation can be completed. It will only be necessary to purchase hooks or rings for attaching the curtain itself. If there is a string curtain on the wall, then it is mounted in a collapsible form. First, the bases are fixed, with the same marking as described earlier, after which the string is pulled in open boxes to the desired elasticity and the box is closed. If the string is of good quality, and best of all made of steel, then on such a curtain the curtains will never sag.

How to attach a ceiling curtain

Ceiling are quite popular. And this is not surprising, because they have many advantages compared to wall-mounted installation:

  • Ceiling curtains can decorate with curtains not only a window, but also the entire wall. They are able to occupy space from the ceiling to the floor, while visually increasing the height of the room.
  • There is the possibility of installing structures that repeat the bends of the walls, which is especially important if there are columns or ledges in the room
  • Due to the reduced load on the fixing structure, you can safely buy heavy and massive curtains.

Installation of ceiling cornices begins with measurements of the size of the necessary curtains and determining the type of curtains that you want to purchase. After that, using the level, it is necessary to establish the presence or absence of irregularities on the ceiling. If found, they must be removed before installing the cornice. After such manipulations, you can proceed to the direct installation of the ceiling curtain. Its installation occurs in the following sequence:

  1. Using a tape measure, is the middle of the window opening. With the help of a marker, a mark is placed in its middle and transferred to the ceiling.
  2. Mark the installation fixation points.
  3. With the help of a drill, holes are made in marked places on the curtain itself. The same holes on the ceiling are made using a punch
  4. With a hammer, plastic dowels are inserted into the holes.
  5. Screws attach a curtain.

After the hooks are inserted, it remains only to secure them with plugs.

There are two ways to mount to the ceiling:

  1. Open. This method implies the presence of a wooden beam at the future location of the cornice. It forms before mounting the ceiling. If available, you only need to determine its boundaries and fasten the curtain rod with the help of screws. Holes for mounting in it are made in advance.
  2. Closed. The essence of this method is to install the entire suspension system indented from the wall and window by 20-25 centimeters. This method should be discussed in advance with the builders, who should leave a place for this bar.

Drywall Mount

There are three ways to attach curtains to a plasterboard ceiling:

  1. Plan in advance the installation of the cornice at the assembly stage on it of the frame. Using ceiling suspensions and horizontal sections, a CD profile strip is attached to the wall at the installation site. Their installation is carried out using self-tapping screws through drywall to an existing frame
  2. If there is a small distance between the main and decorative ceilings, the cornice can be attached using anchors. Holes will be drilled through the suspended ceiling.
  3. If the cornice is attached to a previously created ceiling, then special fasteners must be used. Due to the large number of fasteners installed, the strength of the suspension structure will increase.

Ceiling Mount

There are three ways to mount the cornice to the stretch ceiling:

  1. The first way is to fix it on the tensile structure. In this case, the reference bookmark will be used. A wooden beam is mounted to the base ceiling, and then a PVC film. After that, the tension structure is attached to the beam.
  2. The second method implies the presence of a special niche in which the curtain will be mounted. A beam is fixed to the main ceiling, from the bottom of which there is a wall profile, where a PVC film is supplied.
  3. The third method is similar to the second. The difference is that the bar will be hidden behind the PVC film. This method is the most expensive and aesthetic.

Main mistakes

Often at different stages of installation, you can make a mistake that can cross out all the work done and leave you without a long-awaited curtain rod. To prevent this from happening, you need to know about certain rules that should not be neglected:

  1. You can not install a new design in place of the old. Old holes will not be able to withstand new installations, and sooner or later the curtain will simply fly out of the holes.
  2. Before installing the cornice, it is always necessary to make calculations and measurements. Even though there is a beautiful eye, measuring instruments must be used. This will prevent an oversight with the stability of the curtain or its curvature.
  3. In case of heavy curtains, install additional fasteners.
  4. Fix the cornice in parallel with the corners. First, fastenings are made, and then the structure is hung
  5. Avoid using a stepladder. Standing on a stepladder with a curtain in your hands is extremely difficult to balance. This is fraught with the fall of the installation with further damage and personal injury.
