How to get rid of the smell of towels

Bathroom for many is a bastion of cleanliness. In it, people take a shower or bath, brush their teeth, wash themselves - they do their hygiene. It is not surprising that this place is strongly associated with purification and lack of dirt. Therefore, the bathroom is often kept in absolute cleanliness.

But sometimes unexpected factors arise that violate the untarnished reputation of this sanctuary of hygiene. Along with the fungus at the joints of tiles, the most common problem is bad smell. And most often it comes from the towels with which we wipe the body.

How to eliminate bad breath from towels

Before you try to get rid of the unpleasant odor, you need to find out where it comes from. This will help not only to choose an effective means of eliminating it, but also to take preventive measures so that the situation does not recur in the future.

But where does the unpleasant smell of towels come from? After all, they are definitely not dirty. If kitchen or beach textiles can still get dirty, then where can the dirt in the bathroom come from? After all, there we wipe only our own clean body, which has just emerged from the soul. In fact, there may be several reasons.

Causes of bad smell

The most common reasons why a towel smells bad are:

  • Old stubborn pollution;
  • Too long use of textiles;
  • Poor washing;
  • Inadequate drying of the fabric.

The first and most obvious reason is all kinds of accidental pollution. Perhaps you touched the towel with dirty hands, dropped it on a floor that was not washed for a long time, spilled household chemicals on it - there are always accidents. Many of these marks remain on the fabric almost forever, exuding an unpleasant odor.

The second obvious reason is aging. Towels need to be changed and it is advisable to do this once a year. A fabric that constantly comes into contact with water and soap residues can quickly wear out and become unpleasant.

Next comes the banal, but not so obvious factor - poor-quality washing. Even if you wipe with a towel only a clean body, without washing it will quickly start to smell. It is likely that with the last wash, the fabric simply did not stretch well.

Well, the last but not the least significant factor is the neglect of towel drying. The bathroom is the wettest part of the house. We often use water there, water vapor may appear there and it is there that the weakest ventilation is. A warm and humid environment is ideal for the growth of fungi and other microorganisms. As a result, towels may smell damp.

Remedies

We figured out the causes of the amber, but how to remove it? There is no way to fix the stubborn pollution and commonplace wear, but it is quite possible to deal with other problems!

Facilities

There are four main ways to combat the pungent odor from the fabric:

  • Re-wash.
  • Boiling.
  • Wash with vinegar and soda.
  • The use of special chemicals.

The simplest and most obvious solution is to wash the towels twice in a row. It is best to do this with your hands, and then thoroughly dry them and iron them. Often this is enough to get rid of the smell. High temperatures work well. Boiling tissue kills all microorganisms, but can adversely affect the condition of the product.

More complex and difficult options - washing with special additives. For example, instead of powder or gel, you can add vinegar and soda to the washer. These versatile cleaning products work well with dishes and with cloth. And if you do not disdain chemistry - you can find special ready-made tools to eliminate odors in the store.

Instructions

There is no need to explain everything about re-washing, but boiling is best explained. Many people think that it’s enough to boil a towel in ordinary water and it will immediately become perfectly clean. This is not true. No one bothers you to boil the fabric in water without additives, but this will not give the desired effect.

Half a glass of soda, 4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and a piece of laundry soap grated on a grater 72% should be added to the water. Mix everything in cold water and boil the fabric for about 40 minutes after boiling. It will not be superfluous to wash the thing again after boiling.

IMPORTANT! Always sort the laundry by color when boiling. This should be done when washing in the washing machine, but sometimes this rule is neglected. When boiling, this is a prerequisite if you do not want to mix colors.

There are two ways to wash with soda and vinegar. The first is to soak a towel in water with the addition of table vinegar by 9%, and then squeeze and wash as usual. For 8 liters of water, one glass of vinegar is enough. Soak should be no more than an hour. The second way is to pour a glass of soda into the drum when washing in a car and pour a glass of vinegar. Detergents do not need to be added.
