How to fasten roller blinds

The choice of roller blinds is almost unlimited. Choosing the right color, size, transparency, you have to decide how the design will be fixed. It depends on this choice how comfortable it will be to use the curtains, how long they can be operated.

The article describes various installation methods: on plastic and wooden window frames, on a wall, ceiling. Each method has its own characteristics. We hope that the information in the article will help you find a roller blind that will work for many years and please the eye.

Types of fastening roller blinds

The roller blind can be held on a special mount or on adhesive tape. Can be fixed:

  • on the window profile;
  • to the slope inside the window opening;
  • above the window opening to the wall;
  • to the ceiling.

The choice depends on the size of the canvas, the characteristics of the room, personal preferences.

Massive rolls are preferable to hang on special fasteners that are held on self-tapping screws. Small lightweight constructions will be supported without problems on a special adhesive tape or double-sided tape. As a rule, in a package with a finished roller blind, there are 2 different sets of fasteners, and the buyer chooses at his discretion. When ordering according to individual sizes, you can choose fasteners on the recommendation of the manufacturer.

It is advisable to fasten large massive rollers to the ceiling. With ceiling mounts, deformation of structures is less likely due to the rational distribution of the load (the center of gravity will be under the screws, and not on the side of them). A niche can be provided for ceiling mounting.

Visually hide the size of a large roller will help the mount to the slope. Having decided to fix the roller blind on the slope, make sure that the material of the slope can withstand the load. For example, there will be no problems with fixing on the plastered and putty slopes. Slopes from the sandwich panels will not hold the screws.

A small window, especially without a window sill, will look stylish with a curtain attached to the wall above the window opening.

Light and compact rolls can be fixed on the window frame. This solution will maximize the use of the surface of the window sill.

IMPORTANT! When choosing a fastener, make sure that the windows open and close without hindrance.

With the simultaneous use of rolled paintings with curtains and drapes, it is important to ensure sufficient space for all elements of the window decor.

Guides for roller blinds significantly extend their service life. They provide movement without displacements and deformations.

Mounting on plastic windows

For plastic windows, it is preferable to mount without the use of screws, since subsequently, when deciding to remove the decor of the hole, it will be problematic to mask.

If for some reason you decide to install the structure on plastic windows using self-tapping screws, our recommendations are detailed in the next section on fixing to wooden windows. The only feature is that before screwing the screws into the plastic frame, it is better to drill holes with a drill in it.

Without drilling onto a plastic profile, roller blinds can be fixed using spring brackets or plates, which are fixed with a special adhesive tape or double-sided tape.

Each model of curtains can have separate features, which will be necessarily reflected in the accompanying instruction. Perhaps the most significant difference will be the choice of fastening, depending on whether the sash opens. For opening sashes, spring brackets are used, for the deaf - plates. However, the principle of fastening without drilling is the same for all paintings and is as follows:

  1. We prepare all the accessories for curtains and pencils, and also if there is no special adhesive tape in the kit, double-sided tape.
  2. The fasteners and the surface of the profile on which the roll will be mounted must be thoroughly washed, degreased with alcohol and dried.
  3. Pieces of adhesive tape are glued to the fasteners, leaving a protective film on the side that will be in contact with the window profile.
  4. We assemble the design of the roller blind completely.
  5. We fix it on the window with our hands, without gluing it to the tape.
  6. We mark with a pencil the boundaries of the fasteners (brackets or plates).
  7. We remove the structure from the window, disconnect the roller with the canvas.
  8. Remove the protective film from the fasteners and firmly press the fasteners to the marked location.
  9. We put the chain mechanism on the gear.
  10. We fix the roller in the holders.
  11. We check whether the mechanism works properly: open and close the curtain.

Mount on wooden windows

For wooden windows, the fastening of roller blinds on self-tapping screws is preferable. They provide high structural strength. In case of refusal from them, after the self-tapping screws there are no sticky traces that require a lot of effort to remove.

The holes in the tree are putty easily and without a trace. Having decided to install the roller blind on wooden windows using double-sided tape, you can read our recommendations in the previous section.

The principle of installation on self-tapping screws:

  1. We spread all the components from the curtains on a flat surface, make sure that there are self-tapping screws in the kit. If not, we get our own. A drill and pencil are also required.
  2. We assemble by connecting the roller to the mounts.
  3. We attach the design to the window profile, without screwing anything, we fix it with our hands.
  4. We mark the places of the holes with a pencil. They must coincide with the holes, that is, you mark them as through a stencil.
  5. We remove the structure from the window.
  6. We disconnect the fasteners, apply them to the marked place, fasten with screws.
  7. We put the lifting gear on the gear.
  8. We fix the roller in the holders.
  9. We make sure that everything works properly: lower and raise the curtain.

Wall mounts

Roller blinds are mounted on the wall only with self-tapping screws.

  • We prepare all parts of the curtains, self-tapping screws with dowels, a pencil, a level, a puncher (perhaps a drill will suffice).
  • We assemble the design.
  • We apply it to the wall.
  • Mark the locations of the holes. It is advisable to use the level. While the installation on the window frame takes place almost along the edge of the frame, and it can be considered as a level, it is recommended to align the roll on the wall and mark it with a level.
  • We drill holes according to the size of the screws. With a high degree of probability, you will have to use a puncher, especially in a multi-storey building. As a rule, windows are located in load-bearing walls. They often meet metal fittings. The likelihood of getting into the reinforcement with a drill increases significantly if you drill a hole directly above the window where the jumper is located. An ordinary drill will not cope with this task.
  • We hammer the dowels into the holes.
  • We fasten the fasteners to the screws.
  • We put the chain mechanism on the gear.
  • We hang the roller in the fasteners.
  • We check the operation of the mechanism, lower and raise the roller blind.

Fastening without drilling

The method of decorating a window with roller blinds without drilling involves the use of adhesive tape. This mount is suitable for windows with plastic frames. In rare cases, the roll can be fixed on the upper slope of the window. For this, the slope must be made of PVC.

IMPORTANT! Fixing to the slope of PVC is fraught with some problems:

  • the slope may not be perfectly smooth, and deviation from the level even by a couple of millimeters causes a skew of the entire roll, which can cause damage to the edges; deformation of the slope can also occur as a result of the installation of a structure on it;
  • the quantity and quality of the adhesive tape must correspond to the weight; if you make a wrong choice, the design may fall.

Double-sided tape is able to hold the roller blind on a wooden window, but this is not rational. For wooden structures, a connection to self-tapping screws will be more suitable.

Fastening to plastic frames is described in detail above in the 3rd section of our article; to wooden - in the 4th.

Fixing roller blinds to the ceiling

Roller blinds are attached to the ceiling with self-tapping screws, similar to a wall:

  1. We prepare all the structural elements, screws and dowels, pencil, punch.
  2. We collect the curtain.
  3. We apply it to the ceiling.
  4. We mark holes with a pencil.
  5. We drill them.
  6. We hammer in them dowels.
  7. We fix the fastening in the holes with screws.
  8. We put the chain mechanism on the gear.
  9. We fix the roller in the holders.
  10. We check how the mechanism works.

IMPORTANT! It is only possible to fix the curtains on the ceiling if it has sufficient strength (for example, concrete or wood). If the room has a stretch ceiling, it is advisable to choose a different installation method or wait for repairs and change the ceiling.

Common installation errors

Despite the simplicity of the design, typical errors are encountered during installation. We will describe them so that you can avoid them.

  • When choosing, it is important to remember that the width of the canvas is a separate characteristic, and the total width of the curtain is the distance from the edge of one joint to the edge of the second.
  • Having chosen the installation position of the roll, lower the canvas and twist the window handles in all directions, open and close the windows. Very often after installation it turns out that the canvas interferes with the functionality of window handles or frames.
  • When choosing the installation position, it is necessary to take into account the full length of the canvas, so that its top does not turn out to be raised unjustifiably high, while the bottom does not close the window and freely passes light.
  • When using adhesive tape, it is important to thoroughly wash and degrease the surfaces. Neglect of this rule significantly reduces the strength of the structure. She may fall at the most unexpected moment.

Conclusion

Having considered the main ways of attaching a roller blind, let's summarize.

Intuitive choice is not enough. It is necessary to consider:

  • design features of the room as a whole and windows in particular;
  • the weight;
  • material of window elements.

Each fastener has its own advantages and disadvantages, they are described in the article, when choosing it is reasonable to weigh all operating conditions.

The installation of massive roll structures is recommended to be performed with someone from relatives or friends. It’s hard and uncomfortable to hold a large roller alone, and most importantly, you can’t see how smoothly it is installed.

We hope that the article did not leave you any questions regarding the installation, and the process will bring you pleasant and time-consuming chores.
