How to degrease shoes before gluing

Any even high-quality sturdy shoes eventually become unusable under the influence of moisture, dirt and reagents. In the process of wearing, the sole is subjected to the greatest load, most often this element is the reason for going to the shoe workshop. But is it always necessary to contact the master or can any repair work be carried out independently without overpaying? You can stick the sole on your own. The durability of such a repair will largely depend on the preparation of the bonding site and the quality of the selected glue.

Features of degreasing shoes before gluing

Degreasing is a rather crucial moment. The quality of its implementation will largely determine the outcome of the work done. The better the fat-free gluing surfaces are, the more reliable the gluing place will be.

The modern market is “full of” various adhesives, which, according to manufacturers, do not require the preparation of elements before gluing. Perhaps it is, but the processing of parts will not be superfluous, it will make the connection even more reliable and durable.

Before gluing shoes or sneakers, they should be well prepared for this process. Bonding preparation will include:

  • high-quality washing with soap or detergents and brushes;
  • rinse
  • drying at room temperature.

Important! Before degreasing and gluing, make sure that the shoes are completely dry. Wet surfaces do not stick well, such a connection will be short-lived.

In the process of preparing the bonding surface, it is better to clean with fine-grained sandpaper. This will maximize bonding success.

How to degrease shoes before gluing

To degrease the surfaces to be glued, only 2 components are required:

  • cotton pads or other surface treatment cloth;
  • degreasing agent.

For degreasing, such agents as acetone, white spirit, gasoline, nail polish remover, alcohol, vodka, various solvents are suitable. The selected product is applied to a cotton pad. Bonding surfaces are carefully treated with this cotton pad.

The degreasing process will allow better cleaning of surfaces from grease films and other contaminants that impede reliable adhesive bonding.

After surface treatment, the shoes must be kept at room temperature for 10-15 minutes - until the solution completely evaporates.

Now you can start gluing the elements of shoes. With proper preparation and selection of glue, shoes can last for more than one season!
