How to bleach bedding at home

The bedroom is a part of the house that only the owners of the house see. But even in such a secluded corner, everything should be impeccable - from wallpaper on the walls to bedding on the bed. Over time, light fabrics fade, acquire a gray or yellow hue, become covered with obsolete spots. Detergents and folk remedies will help restore the former freshness of bedding.

We understand the types of pollution

Oil traces of hand cream, color stains of a color towel faded on linen or yellowness are the reasons why sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases lose their attractiveness. Depending on the cause of the pollution, it is necessary to use different methods.

Return whiteness to yellowed linen

Light fabric after many washes can take on a gray, yellow, light green hue. There are several reasons for this negative impact:

  • Water for washing with a high iron content (more than 7 degrees of hardness), nitrates.
  • The use of washing powders, stain removers with a high content of phosphates, flates, hydrochloric acid.
  • Regular washing of light bedding with dark items.

To return a presentable appearance to products will help folk methods, gentle detergents. In addition to the loss of natural radiance, color, spots of different origin appear on the fabric.

Stained lingerie

Regular regular care is not enough to cleanse the fabric of dirt. Stains must be treated before washing. Modern housewives use synthetic stain removers, but alternative recipes can be a great alternative to them. Spots of different origin are removed by such means:

  • Gasoline - oil and salt pollution.
  • Turpentine - oil paints, birch tar.
  • Kerosene - traces of vegetable oil, products based on it (sprats, fried foods).
  • Vinegar - stains from fish oil, rust.
  • Ammonia - traces of egg yolks, proteins, chocolate, brewed coffee.
  • Soap solution - blood stains, sweat marks.

It is recommended to dry the greasy traces with an iron first - put a clean napkin on the stain and spend several times with a heated appliance. After using each of the products, it is necessary to wash and rinse thoroughly.

Special industrial bleaching agents (some recommendations)

The easiest way to whiten yellowed sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases is to buy a stain remover in the store and wash the items in its solution. But, this method requires compliance with the rules:

  • Before washing, you need to study the recommendations from the manufacturer on the label: temperature, spin, warnings.
  • Pre-soak linen should be separate from other products, especially colored ones.
  • A chlorine-based product is not suitable for cotton fabrics with embroidery - its aggressive components destroy natural fibers.

To achieve the maximum whitening effect, you need to use products labeled "for white", which include: sodium perborate, fumaric acid, subtilisin.

Folk methods and instruction

Food products, “grandmother's” recipes, and pharmacy products, no worse than synthetic stain removers, eliminate yellowness and obsolete pollution from bedding. You can restore the previous cleanliness and freshness of the fabric by boiling or simply by washing.

Boiling

The procedure for digesting clothes, towels, bed linen began to be used in the distant XIV century in Europe, America and Russia. The purpose of boiling products was not only hygienic cleaning of dirt, but also disinfection - the destruction of deadly viruses, bacteria, and infections. Today, professional drugs perform this function, and boiling is used as a way to eliminate yellowness. Recommendations for digestion:

  • For the procedure, you need a large capacity - a bowl, pan, boiling out.
  • Linen should be placed in cold water with diluted detergent, and only then heat it.
  • Boil the wash for at least 2 hours, regularly stirring with a wooden object.
  • After digestion, they are not removed from the tank, but left in it until cool.

To give shine and eliminate yellowness, methylene blue solution (blue) is added to the water to rinse boiled bed linen in the proportions of 5 drops per 10 l. water.

Important! If you put dirty laundry in boiled water, then the yellowness and stains will not disappear, but they will penetrate deeper into the fabric.

No boiling

If there is no desire or opportunity, then you can turn yellowed products into snow-white using ordinary washing. Do this in the following sequence:

  • Soak products in hot water (60 degrees) for 2-10 hours.
  • Before washing, linen is removed from the water in which it was soaked, twisted.
  • Prepare a washing solution: 5 l. warm water take 200 ml of soap solution (dry or liquid stain remover).
  • Put the bedding in the solution, squeeze it carefully for 5-10 minutes.
  • Rinse the products 2-3 times (until the soap bubbles on the surface of the water disappear), add a few drops of blue to the last rinse.

This is the sequence for handwashing. Using a washing machine makes adjustments to this list: the first three items do not change, and instead of 4 and 5, the laundry that was wrung out after soaking is placed in a drum and the appropriate mode is selected.

Using various components for whitening

You can eliminate the gray or yellow shade from the fabric by different methods: machine wash, boil, use store bleach. No worse than these methods, substances that are in the first-aid kit or in the kitchen of every housewife cope with a "dirty" shade on the linen.

Aqueous solution of whiteness

Even in the Soviet Union, this tool was the leader in the list of popular household chemicals. Modern housewives also use whiteness to give freshness to clothing and textiles. To prepare a solution sparing for tissue, use water: in 10 liters. cold liquid is diluted with 30 ml of the product. In this solution, the clothes are soaked for 1 hour, then squeezed and washed in the usual way.

Important! Whiteness cannot be used to lighten thin cotton fabrics, products with color embroidery and pattern.

Eliminating Yellowness with Baking Soda

A component completely safe for health - baking soda - is in every kitchen. They also bleach linen, which is afraid to spoil. To prepare the solution you will need: 10 tbsp. soda, 5 tablespoons ammonia, 10 l. water. All this must be mixed and poured with a product, left for 3 hours. Then it must be wrung out and washed with the addition of washing powder.

Using hydrogen peroxide to bleach bedding

Hydrogen peroxide is a component of bleaching hair dyes and is used to treat wounds in medicine. In both cases, its action is aimed at destroying dirt, so they also bleach linen. To prepare home bleach, you need 30 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 30 ml of ammonia, 5 liters. water. Mix the components, bring to a temperature of 70-75 degrees and dip the previously washed bedding into the solution, leave for 30-40 minutes. Then squeeze the product and dry in the open.

Ammonium-based bleaching recipe

Mix 120 ml of ammonia with 10 liters. cold water. In this solution, soak the laundry for 35 minutes, then rinse and squeeze slightly, dry in clean air. When ammonia enters water, it neutralizes magnesium salts, which are a sign of yellowness.

The use of potassium permanganate to restore the whiteness of yellowed linen

When mixed with water, potassium permagant becomes pink, but when yellowness is removed, it does not stain the fabric pink, but makes it snow-white. The reason for this “magic” is the addition of detergent. To prepare the stain remover, you need to add a glass of a slightly red solution of potassium permanganate in 200 g of dry laundry detergent or laundry soap grated on a fine grater. Mixed components should be added to 10-12 liters. boiled water and pour the product, cover and leave for 6-8 hours, then rinse several times in cold water.

The effect of vegetable oil on tissue yellowness

In Soviet times, smart housewives used vegetable oil not only to fry cutlets, but also to remove traces on the tissues after eating them. Bleach recipe: grate soap 200 g on a fine grater, dissolve it in 8 liters. hot water, add 200 ml of sunflower oil to the solution. Soak the laundry in the mixture, leave for 1-3 hours, then wash with the addition of washing powder.

Effective soap-based bleach

Despite the appearance of powders, gels, stain removers, laundry soap has not lost its relevance. Based on it, bleach is prepared for yellowed bedding, which can be added during each wash. Recipe: Mix 250 ml of a thick soapy solution with 100 g of baking soda and 125 ml of borax. In low concentration, this product will protect things from yellowing, and for bleaching 200 ml of the product must be diluted in 10 liters of water, soak the laundry for 3 hours, and then rinse thoroughly.

The role of mustard in bleaching bedding

Mustard not only burns the skin, but also effectively whitens pillowcases, sheets, duvet covers. It is used to eliminate yellowness on synthetic tissues - it is diluted with 400 g of mustard powder in 5 l. water, fill with the composition of the product and leave for 10-12 hours. After that, the laundry is washed with powder manually or in a washing machine.

How to eliminate yellowness on bed textiles with ammonia alcohol

The method is simple and affordable - 5 liters. Warm water, 150 g. baking soda, 30 ml of ammonia alcohol, mix thoroughly. Next, you need to dip the bedding in the solution, leave it for 3-4 hours, then wash it with the addition of washing powder, rinse thoroughly and dry the products under direct sunlight.

Turpentine-based bleach preparation

With the help of turpentine, yellowness and obsolete stains can be removed from the flannel. To do this, prepare a solution: mix 50 ml of turpentine in 8 liters. warm water, add 20 ml of boric acid. Soak laundry in the solution for 1-2 hours, then wash and rinse thoroughly.

Egg shell whitening method

The easiest way to return the whiteness to bed linen is to take dried egg shells, grate it in powder, put it in a cloth bag and wash along with the items. This product is machine washable.

What best bleaches bedding

Before choosing a bleaching method, it is necessary to study the composition of the fabric. The degree of contamination or yellowing also takes place: products that have slightly lost their whiteness should be soaked for 2 hours in a soap solution, and only whiteness is suitable for very gray or yellow fabrics.
