DIY laptop bag

A classic laptop bag is a very necessary accessory that has both practical and visual advantages. After you have made significant investments in buying a laptop, it is important to do everything possible to protect it and extend its life.

The bag at the same time will be very useful. The owner truly appreciates the importance of using a sturdy, durable laptop protection bag. We will tell you how to make such an accessory with your own hands.

Model selection

In order to determine what should be a laptop bag, you need to consider several points.

Laptop bags come in many designs. This allows you to meet the needs of both those who prefer bags with a handle, and those who carry them over their shoulders. And some prefer models with no handles or a snap-on strap.

You need to think about your goal and make a bag that suits your needs. People are increasingly carrying their laptops with them almost everywhere, wherever they are.

Therefore, before making a cover with your own hands, several factors must be considered:

  • product size
  • the presence of a long or short handle;
  • which style is best for you;
  • Do you need extra compartments.

Having presented your product mentally, you can begin to create it.

Materials and Tools

  • About 0.5 m of dense material (jeans, leatherette, gabardine, crepe, etc.). The size of the blade may vary slightly depending on the size of your laptop. Take more for reliability.
  • Sealant (fleece, doubler, etc.).
  • Lining fabric (cotton, linen, calico, etc.).
  • Small pieces of Velcro, zipper.
  • Sewing supplies: threads, needles, pins, tape, scissors, sewing machine.

Step-by-step sewing instructions

Simple model

We will tell you how to sew a simple version of the product. In this case, we can do even without a paper drawing, measurements

We will do directly on the material.

  • Start by placing your laptop on a cloth to take measurements. You need to cut off a piece of tissue that is about 1.5–2 cm wider on each side than your computer.
  • Cut 2 parts for the outside of the bag, and make blanks for the lining and seal.
  • Depending on the desired length of the handles, cut out for each of them 2 parts with a width of 3 to 5 cm.

IMPORTANT! On the lining and seal, the increase in the seam is minimized.

  • Then stitch the internal parts, try them on your device.
  • Optionally, you can make an inside pocket. It is better to fix it now, before the sides are stitched.
  • Stitch the outside.
  • Stitch the sides of the bag.
  • Insert the zipper.
  • Stitch the handles.

IMPORTANT ! Compare the size of the paper blanks and make the necessary adjustments.

Using patterns allows you to add personality to your product. So, if you don’t have lightning at hand, you can make the back canvas more than the front. Additional fabric will become a valve-cover, which must be fixed on the "face" of the product. To do this, you can use Velcro, buttons, buttons or even ties, which will simultaneously become an element of decor.

Pockets can be a useful element of a bag. In addition to the inner pocket, you can make 1-2 external pockets. If you make a product from old jeans, use a pocket which is on trousers.
