Crochet Kokoshnik

A festive hat, the kokoshnik, appeared around the 16th century. At this time in Russia it was worn exclusively by married women. The decoration was made of a crown and a special textile hair-cloth. He hid the female braid.

Gone are the days of this headgear, and now it can only be seen on holidays. But still today, it causes no less admiration.

It is difficult to imagine a Snow Maiden without such a beautiful attribute. And an impeccable folk costume simply can not do without such a spectacular headdress.

You can make it yourself. We’ll tell you how to crochet a kokoshnik.

What is required for knitting

For such a product, thin yarn is required . The iris thread can handle this. But thicker threads are not excluded, with them you get a dense and thick kokoshnik, if you apply a simple canvas pattern of columns without a crochet for him.

It is very important to beautifully decorate the kokoshnik. Therefore, you will need to stock up with beautiful beads, satin ribbons or large beads .

Help Some models have a special wire frame (pre-wound thread).

How to crochet a kokoshnik for a girl

For a child it is better to knit a light accessory in which the baby will not get tired. Therefore, it is worth choosing thin threads. But with decorations you need to be very careful. Even a well-starched product may not withstand if the canvas is overloaded with decorations.

To work, you will need :

  • iris yarn 2 skeins of white color;
  • 7 mm beads for decoration;
  • hook 0.85.

Completing of the work

Scheme

Beginning of work

Using the hook and thread, perform the initial set of air loops. The model will need 68 loops.

The product does not fit in a circle, but in straight and reverse rows. It should be very careful when counting loops. In the center, a larger loop requires the addition of air loops. In total, it is necessary to knit 11 rows in the kokoshnik.

Shaping

Starting from row 8, many loops should be moved and the ends of the kokoshnik run a little, so that the product turns out to be arched.

In the scheme for a larger rise, in addition to single crochet posts, also double crochet posts are used. They will require a similar performance technique, but instead of one turn of the working loop, you need to do two.

The most outstanding part is made by a large number of air loops. But it’s worth being careful, since the single crochet columns are also used to connect the air loops of the first element to the second.

Tie and decoration

Use a satin ribbon to tie. You just need to sew it to the edges of the resulting knitted masterpiece.

Decorate the finished version with beads. Just sew several large shells at the corners, without overloading the product. It is better to use one bead in the top corner for each shell. And the pattern will remain visible, and the product will turn out not so heavy.

Important! Initially, the received accessory will not stand smoothly, since it is made of a very thin thread. It must be starched.

Kokoshnik starch

In order for the kokoshnik to be perfectly even and stand, and not crawl like a soft napkin, it needs to be prepared. Starch is necessary for preparation. There are several ways to do this. It is not only about the concentration of starch for the solution. You can starch with glue, however paradoxical it may sound. Only knitted children's kokoshnik is best treated with starch .

Solution preparation

For work you will need:

  • starch - 2 tablespoons;
  • water - 1 liter.

Dilute all the starch in a glass of cold water and mix well. Heat 1 liter of water on the stove and gradually introduce starch into it. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Treatment

Put the thing in the solution for 20-30 minutes. Then stretch on a flat surface, allow the product to dry well.

Important ! Do not squeeze the product after it has been removed from the solution. This can ruin the fibers and stretch the loops in unnecessary places.

Such a procedure will then need to be carried out with a kokoshnik after each wash.

Useful crochet crochet tips

  • Knit kokoshnik must be strictly according to the scheme. It should be a smooth canvas.
  • If the thread is thin, it is better to starch the product and put on the hood. It will turn out a very even cloth and all the loops will be neat.
  • Do not overload the finished product with different beads. All this is beautiful, but a thin canvas can simply bend at the most inopportune moment.
  • If you want a very shiny product, then it is better to add a lurex thread to the main yarn. Or buy not a white thread of iris, but already with the added fiber of Lurex.
  • For a girl, it is better to make a kokoshnik on the rim. Everything is done according to the plan of the scheme, but the final step will be the assembly.
